As a Lead HMI Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the requirement, design, implementation, development and testing SCADA/HMI for the HVDC Control & Protection system. You will work closely with various engineering disciplines within the HVDC business, develop organisational talent, manage engineering processes, provide technical guidance, mentor, drive consistent design practices, establish common global processes for project implementation, and deliver technical solutions that meet NPI, project delivery and tender objectives. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence throughout the week in Stafford or Noida.


Roles and Responsibilities

* Lead overall requirement, design, implementation, and testing of SCADA / HMI for HVDC Control & Protection system.
* Responsible for functional specification, HMI design requirements, HMI symbol and view specification.
* Handle customer face‑to‑face meetings and close all technical queries (TQs).
* Create PLC logic (IEC61131-3).
* Implement HMI cyber security, virtualization, and Windows operating system.
* Use and test HMI / SCADA technologies.
* Work with industrial communication protocols such as IEC61850, IEC60870, DNP3, Modbus, and other standards.
* Configure IEC61850 IEDs via vendor tools and system configuration tools.
* Generate Substation Configuration Description Language (SCL) files for system integration.
* Apply interlocking principles used in substation automation systems on IEC61850 IEDs.
* Design, configure and test HVDC Control System hardware within budgets and timelines.
* Test and debug complex IEC61850 communication systems with tools such as IEDSCout, Wireshark, etc.
* Coordinate HVDC Control System with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems.
* Define main IO lists of the control system.
* Analyse signal interfaces and ensure compatibility with the control system.
* Collaborate with NPI teams on configuration of RTUs, BCU, and Merging Units for signal acquisition.
* Configure LAN networks/communication architectures and industrial Ethernet switches/routers and satellite clocks.
* Oversee testing and FAT witnessing of the Control System.
* Prepare and present technical information for Substation Control Systems to customers.
* Provide guidance for analysis/evaluation of projects meeting business standards and product requirements.
* Coach and develop department talent.
* Make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks in operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.
* Bring fresh perspectives to existing solutions.
* Use data analysis to support recommendations.
* Assist site activities related to installation and commissioning of the control system.
* Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.
* Document technical data in accordance with engineering policies and procedures.
* Follow departmental design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.
* Continue broadening knowledge of own technical discipline.


Required Qualifications

* Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field.
* Excellent background in HMI software configuration and implementation, preferably in Zenon COPA‑DATA or Panorama‑CODRA.
* Extensive experience in HMI development on the electrical field (DC or AC side).
* Very good knowledge in configuring Substation Bay Controllers / Merging Units / IEC61850 IEDs.
* Knowledge of communication networks security/hardening and cybersecurity best practices.
* Excellent knowledge of Layer‑2 & 3 protocols such as IPv4, OSPF, LACP, DMZ, VPN/DMS/ADMS/DNP, IEC, Modbus.
* Knowledge of Control Panel design (preferably in substation/power plant environments).
* Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems / Substation Automation.
* Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Profibus and Ethernet‑based protocols.
* Control & Protection Relay logic design techniques.
* Experience in developing electrical designs for industrial control systems.
