Overview
Lead Veterinarian – Brand New hospital – Melton District, Leicestershire
My clients are looking for an accomplished and inspiring Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join their brand new hospital opening next spring. You’ll work alongside a Clinical Director to uphold clinical excellence, nurture team development, and shape the continued success of this thriving small animal practice. This is an exceptional opportunity to take a leading role in an exciting new chapter as they prepare to move into a new purpose-built, state-of-the-art hospital. You’ll have the rare chance to help design systems, influence culture, and establish a truly progressive veterinary environment from the very beginning.
As Lead Vet, you’ll step into a modern, well-equipped hospital supported by an experienced and stable clinical team. You’ll provide strong clinical and operational leadership, make key decisions that elevate patient care, and foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement. The role offers a diverse caseload, from routine procedures to complex medical and surgical cases, ensuring you can continue to develop your clinical expertise while leading by example.
You’ll also have access to leadership training, a generous CPD allowance, and the freedom to pursue your own areas of interest. Their exceptional nursing and administrative teams — covering HR, finance, and health and safety — ensure that you can focus on what truly matters: outstanding clinical care and team leadership.
In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee the hospital’s day-to-day caseload and operations, support the smooth transition into the new premises, mentor colleagues (including graduates), and contribute strategically as part of the senior leadership team. You’ll also act as a key representative of values and clinical standards.
To meet the requirements of our PSS Hospital status, applicants must hold a postgraduate certificate, ideally with a focus on internal medicine or imaging. Previous leadership experience is essential, and they actively support further qualification — six of the clinicians already hold advanced certificates, including Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery.
