We are pleased to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the friendly specialist clinical trials pharmacy team as a Pharmacy Clinical Trial Technician.
You would work closely with this team and also with the pharmacy aseptic, dispensary, oncology department, and other research departments across the Trust.
There is a strong portfolio of clinical research with currently over 80 trials with pharmacy involvement. The pharmacy clinical trial service is provided from both the main dispensary and the dedicated trials dispensary in the Royal Surrey Cancer centre, along with input from the aseptic services department.
The successful applicant would join an experienced team of specialist clinical trial pharmacy staff who provide a comprehensive service to oncology/ haematology and also participates in trials in diabetes, ophthalmology, hepatology, ENT, cardiology and intensive care.
Previous experience in pharmacy clinical trials is desirable but not essential. An NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent level by qualification or experience would satisfy this role as a band 4. Full GCP training would be provided. We would also endeavour to support any relevant personal/career development training when in post.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
* Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) management
* Dispensing and labelling of clinical trial medication
* Ordering and seeing in clinical trial deliveries
* Documenting clinical trial returns
* Corresponding with clinical trial sponsor representatives and research staff
* Daily temperature monitoring
* Supporting service improvement initiatives
Job responsibilities
Be GCP compliant and undergo initial GCP training that is revalidated every three years. Order clinical trial specific medications (for both oncology and non-oncology specialties). See in deliveries for all trial medications (both oncology and non-oncology specialties). This will include aseptic trial deliveries. Dispense clinical trial medication and record patient and drug accountability. Ensuring there is an audit trail of each IMP from delivery/receipt to return/destruction. Return clinical trial medication from research nurses/patients and complete the relevant accountability paperwork. Measure and record temperature conditions to ensure clinical trial medication is stored correctly. Regularly clean fridges and freezers to ensure efficient running and safe storage of medicines. The post holder is guided by departmental procedures, GCP and hospital policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* The willingness and ability to promptly complete NVQ2 in order to dispense clinical trial medications (if not already achieved).
* Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training, NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent level by qualification or experience
* Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC
Knowledge
* Sufficient relevant experience within pharmacy clinical trials and GCP
