Old Basford School are seeking to appoint a Deputy SENDCo for our Internal Enhanced Provision (The Willow) within our mainstream school. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting all children to help them thrive.
The post is advertised as full-time and includes dedicated non-contact SEND time. You will be responsible for ensuring the high-standard of provision in The Willow classroom, working collaboratively with all staff and parents to aim for the very best for our children with complex additional needs. As the Deputy SENDCo, you will work closely with the SENDCO to ensure the teaching practice, learning support, learning environment and resources for The Willow and wider school are of a high standard and conducive to excellent pupil progress.
The role would suit an aspirational SENDCo or/and a teacher with real passion, knowledge and love of SEND who sees themselves as SENDCo within the next few years.
Old Basford School is a two-form entry primary and nursery school in Nottingham City with a fantastic reputation and a ‘good’ Ofsted outcome in December 2023. You will be responsible for:
1. Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom (The Willow)
2. Planning and delivering engaging, well-structured lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEND in The Willow
3. Adapting teaching to respond to individual strengths, needs, and EHCP or other outcomes
4. Using effective assessment, feedback and behaviour strategies to support learning
5. Promoting pupil progress in academic, social and emotional development
6. Supporting pupils to develop communication, independence and confidence
7. Working closely with the SENDCo, other key staff, families and Multi-Agency professional
8. Effectively managing additional adults
9. Deputising in the absence of the SENDCo
We are looking for someone who has:
10. Qualified Teacher Status and has passed their ECT years
11. Completed/completing or aspirations to complete The NASENCO (National Award for SEN Coordination) qualification
12. Experience or a strong interest in teaching pupils with SEND
13. Strong knowledge of effective adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice
14. High expectations for pupil achievement, behaviour and personal development
15. Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
16. The skillset to be inspirational, motivated and can lead and support colleagues
17. Resilience, flexibility and enthusiasm about working with children
18. Be energetic, enthusiastic and creative
19. Be willing to go the extra mile to make sure children have wider learning experiences – embracing our motto ‘Opportunities Bring Success’
