We have an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking to recruit a Kennel Assistant to join our team.
The kennel assistant role involves a 4-day on, 4-day off rotation, including some weekend and bank holiday shifts as required. The usual working hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with an hour off for lunch.
For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to complete an apprenticeship at the College of Animal Welfare, pursuing the Veterinary Care Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship via distance learning. Click the link for further details.
This role offers an excellent introduction to the veterinary profession, allowing you to learn and develop your knowledge and skills while working.
Responsibilities include:
* Inpatient care
* Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in kennel areas
* Assisting Nurses & Vets
* Stocking kennel consumables
* Supporting new initiatives as required
* Adhering to all SOPs
* Communicating effectively with clients and maintaining a high standard of customer service and care
* Maintaining good working relationships with all practice staff
* Fulfilling rota obligations, including sick cover, on-call, and bank holiday shifts
* Carrying out reasonable requests from management
Inpatient care duties include:
* Checking TPR
* Administering medication under RVN guidance
* Checking patency on IV lines
* Performing procedures on inpatients under supervision
* Keeping accurate records, updating hospital forms and computer records, billing for meds and consumables
* Maintaining washing machine supplies and folding laundry appropriately
* Cleaning the ambulance daily and ensuring it is ready for patient transport
* Ensuring high standards of cleaning in hospital, kennels, cattery, laundry room, and outside areas, recorded in the cleaning folder
* Assisting vets and nurses as needed
* Being aware of all Health & Safety issues and reading all supplied information
* Participating in appraisals and reviews
* Carrying out stock orders and assisting with stock take
