About the role:
Croydon Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Revenues Officer in its Business Rates Collections Team. We are looking for a dynamic person to join us for a period of 2 years and help continue and improve the service we provide.
We pride ourselves on doing the best for our community. As a Revenues Officer, you will play a key part in this. We aim to be the best collection service in London, with an annual income target exceeding £480m.
You will handle billing, collection, and recovery of business rates, communicating with customers via phone and correspondence, ensuring records are updated with relevant liabilities, reliefs, and exemptions.
The ideal candidate should have experience in negotiating and collecting payments via phone or written communication. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to handle difficult situations tactfully and assertively.
The role's purpose is to provide excellent customer service, resolve account queries, and maximize revenue collection for the Council.
The main duties include:
* Handling enquiries related to Business Rates via phone and correspondence
* Managing billing, collection, and recovery processes
* Using collection experience to recover unpaid Business Rates
* Processing payments and negotiating payment plans
* Managing account statuses (opening, closing, amending)
* Applying reliefs and exemptions
* Liaising with external agencies such as Enforcement Agents
* Experience with Northgate Revenues, Business Rates legislation, and Enterprise is desirable.
We operate a hybrid working model, requiring attendance at the workplace twice a week.
