The Oxford Genetics Laboratories are recruiting a full‑time Healthcare Science Assistant to join the Specimen Reception team at Churchill Hospital.
Salary: £24,937 – £26,598 per annum (pro‑rata).
Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities
* Receiving and logging laboratory specimens in the database.
* Performing practical laboratory processes such as cell culture, DNA extraction, and other specimen preparations.
* Maintaining lab equipment, performing routine housekeeping and documentation.
* Adhering to standard operating procedures and laboratory health and safety policies.
* Co‑ordinating sample dispatch and handling queries related to sample reception and dispatch.
* Assisting with quality control tasks, including recording data, validating new reagents and protocols.
* Participating in training sessions, meetings, and knowledge transfer to new staff.
* Ensuring accurate record keeping and compliance with data protection standards.
* Supporting research and service‑development projects as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including science.
* QCF Level 3 or equivalent: A/AS level, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 including science.
* No requirement for a degree level qualification.
Experience
* Experience of Microsoft Office or equivalent, navigating databases and spreadsheets.
* Previous laboratory work experience.
* Experience maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
Special Knowledge
* Basic knowledge of human genetics, including DNA and chromosomes.
Skills
* Attention to detail, well‑organised, team‑player.
* Strong written and verbal communication.
* Ability to keep accurate records and follow instructions.
* Coping with work pressures and handling a range of human tissue samples.
* Flexible approach and willingness to learn.
* Recognition of responsibility limits.

Probation: 6‑month probationary period applies unless the applicant already holds a contract with the Trust.
