Job Description

Geotechnical and Engineering Geology graduates at AECOM will work on a range of projects, involving work such as:
* Desk studies, site inspections, rockface surveys and geomorphological mapping
* Contribute to the design, planning and procurement of ground investigations
* Supervision of ground investigation fieldwork
* Geological interpretation and preparation of interpretative reports
* Analysis of geotechnical data, preparation of ground models, design and reporting on foundations, retaining walls, soil slope stability, earthworks, rock slope stabilisation
* Use of digital software including Openground for data management and Leapfrog for 3D geological modelling
* Opportunity to develop analysis and modelling skills with 2D and 3D numerical analysis software packages
Qualifications
* A degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology / Geology, with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above
* An MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology would be an advantage
* Competent in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD/Civil 3D (desirable)
* Geotechnical work experience preferred but not essential
* Willing and able to work towards professional qualifications (ICE, IOM3 or The Geological Society)
* Demonstrable interest in geotechnical projects and promoting geotechnical activities with clients
* Flexible and willing to work away from home on sites and occasionally in other offices
* Motivated to meet client and business expectations and consider the wider financial and commercial implications of actions
* Effective communicator with colleagues, internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing
* Capacity to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole
* Ability to work independently without losing initiative and focus

Alongside our GDP we also enrol all Ground Engineering Graduates on GEO Grounding, our in‑house technical training academy, focusing on a series of modules including Desk Study, Geological Interpretation and Geomorphology, Ground Investigation (Design and Site Supervision), Ground Model Development, Parametric Assessment and Geotechnical Design. GEO Grounding comprises module attendance with post‑discussion trainer‑student workshops.
