Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful delivery of major capital works projects within the Homes and Assets portfolio. The role involves coordinating multi-disciplinary internal teams, external consultants, and contractors to ensure that projects are delivered to time, budget, and quality standards.
Operating within the wider Assets Delivery function, this position supports the strategic management of property and asset infrastructure to maximise investment value, improve operational efficiency, and align with long-term organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a portfolio of high-value capital projects, ensuring delivery within time, cost, and quality parameters.
* Provide strategic leadership and oversight across all project phases — from concept and feasibility to handover and completion.
* Act as a key contributor to the development of an “intelligent client” function that drives best practice in capital programme delivery and asset optimisation.
* Ensure new or refurbished assets are handed over in an operationally ready state, compliant with required specifications and standards.
* Oversee procurement, tendering, and contractual processes for assigned projects.
* Lead on project briefing, stakeholder engagement, consultation, and approval processes.
* Produce and present high-level progress reports, risk assessments, and performance updates to senior stakeholders.
* Ensure projects comply with all relevant policies, standards, codes of practice, and statutory requirements.
* Implement strong financial and programme management frameworks, including forecasting, cost control, and performance monitoring.
* Chair and coordinate project and partner meetings, ensuring delivery milestones are achieved and corrective actions implemented where required.
Person Specification
Education, Training and Qualifications
* Relevant project or programme management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM Practitioner) or equivalent professional qualification.
* Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continuous professional development (e.g. professional membership).
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Proven experience managing large-scale capital or asset-based projects.
* Strong understanding of statutory regulations, professional codes, and public sector frameworks.
* Demonstrable leadership and team management experience.
* Strong financial acumen and ability to manage significant budgets.
* Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.
* Ability to interpret complex technical information and make sound strategic recommendations.
