Senior Engineer – Marine, Portsmouth

About the role
As the Senior Engineer, your role will be to operate and ensure correct maintenance and repair of the vessel’s auxiliary machinery, ship’s systems and equipment in a safe, effective and economic manner i.a.w relevant HASAW/MCA regulations. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient and economic operation and upkeep of the vessel’s hull and machinery systems, equipment, structure and fittings including associated electrical and electronic equipment, embarked craft, ship’s boats and portable plant. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operational state and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment on board the vessel.
Responsibilities
* The operation, maintenance, performance, availability, security, custody and safety of all equipment and systems in your charge
* The custody of drawings and publications associated with the equipment and systems in your charge, and of ship’s machinery spares and stores appropriate to your department
* The compilation of records, reports and returns.
* For standards of fire prevention and firefighting on board vessels
* Provide all necessary written procedures for the Engineering Department aboard, as required by the Quality System or the ISM Code as appropriate.
* Demand stores, fuel and spare gear as necessary.
* Act as the Ship’s Safety and Environmental Officer.
* Mentor junior engineers.
* Be responsible for maintenance on more than one vessel.
* Operate winches while on towing tasks.
Qualifications
* Certificate of Competency issued under regulation 1/3 of the STCW 95 code – Chief Engineer Certificates 9000 kW (Tug)
* Leadership and development of people

* ENG1 Medical
* Basic Management
* Health and Safety awareness
* Manual handling
* Managing customers and suppliers
* ISM Code
* Marine Industry background
* Understanding of a planned maintenance system (e.g., AMOS)
* Medium‑speed diesel engine
* Good electrical knowledge
* Flexibility of working hours
* To undertake towage winch operations
