We are Open Bionics, a growing startup based in Bristol. We offer a range of arm and hand prosthetic devices for people with limb loss and limb differences. Our flagship product is Hero PRO, a highly functional bionic hand. Our goal is to become the global leader in upper limb prosthetics, and we want you to help us achieve this. Location/Contract set up: Programme, Tower Lane, Bristol, BS1 2NB Onsite 5 days per week. Salary: £120k per annum. Reports to: CEO. Role Type: Permanent - Full time. Hours: 37.5 per week (30 per week considered).
Role
Financial & Operations Director to join our leadership team and support growing financial and operational requirements. The role will have 5 direct reports, including: Financial Controller, IT Systems Analyst, Quality Manager and Head of HR & Culture.
Responsibilities
* Financial: Annual and monthly management accounts; Maintain a forward looking forecast; Investor relations; Banking; Attendance at board meetings; Support fundraising activities (e.g. Angel, VC investment and loans); Provide financial insights to support leaders and managers in the business; Maintaining appropriate company insurance
* Legal: Reviewing high level legal agreements and contracts; Maintaining company legal documentation; Maintaining cap table; Maintaining company share option scheme and documentation, including issuing new share options
* IT Systems: Directing IT strategy; Directing ERP system improvements, maintenance and management; Directing, negotiating and reviewing high level software contracts
* Quality & Compliance: Overseeing medical compliance across countries in which the company markets products; Overseeing ISO13485 Quality Management System
* HR: Overseeing HR, people and team; Overseeing efforts to improve retention, recruitment and operational efficiency; Overseeing team training and development; Overseeing Payroll, taxes and other key payments
Qualifications
Essential:
* 7+ years in senior finance leadership, ideally in a scale-up or SME
* Experience overseeing HR, IT, and/or Quality teams
* Proven track record of improving operational processes
* Strong strategic thinking and commercial awareness
* High attention to detail with excellent communication skills
* Comfortable in a mission-driven or tech/medical device environment
* Pragmatic and collaborative
* Comfortable in ambiguity; proactive and adaptable
* Passion for scaling companies and building systems
* Aligned with company’s purpose and long-term vision
Desirable:
* Netsuite, or knowledge of similar ERP software
* Experience working in a start-up company
* Experience preparing for audits, funding rounds, or exits a plus
