Highly Specialist Nuclear MT/Radiographer & Deputy to Head of Service

The Nuclear Medicine department at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital is in need of a committed, caring and motivated Nuclear Medicine professional to join our team providing maternity cover for our radiopharmacy specialist technologist. This is a Band 7 position in a vital supervisory role acting as a deputy to the Head of Department and being the main driver in ensuring the safe and efficient running of the department's radiopharmacy service. This is a fixed term position for up to 18.75 hrs per week. Specific days and hours can be negotiated. This provides the perfect opportunity for perhaps an experienced head to step back into a role or a talented individual looking to gain some experience working at the next level in their career. Due to the nature of the position candidates should be available for a rapid start ideally being in post by June/July.


Main duties of the job

As a senior member of the team you will have overall supervisory responsibility over the team of Nuclear Medicine technologists and radiographers in the radiopharmacy and diagnostic imaging sides of the department. You will be the main active lead in running the radiopharmacy service in accordance with Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IRMER), The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Standards (QAAPS) and Trust policies. The ideal candidate would also be able to contribute to the main nuclear medicine clinic, including administration and imaging of patients, but the main focus will be on the needs of the radiopharmacy service.


Job responsibilities

You will be:

* Main point of contact for any radiopharmacy related issues or enquiries, working closely with the Head of Department and Accountable Pharmacist.
* Responsible for ensuring that the appropriate standards required to achieve and maintain compliance with the Pharmacy EL audit (Section 10 exemption) are in place and support the Head of Department in the development and delivery of an economical, effective and responsive nuclear medicine service.
* Ensuring staffing training and validations are up to date.
* Ensuring all Radiopharmacy documentation is up to date.
* Leading on exception reporting and error management.
* Leads on internal audit of radiopharmacy ensuring any identified deficiencies are resolved.

Person Specification


Education and Experience

* HNC/Degree in Medical Physics/Physiological Measurement or other relevant subject or a DCR/Radiography degree
* Considerable radiopharmaceutical production experience
* Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice and Aseptic Preparation
* Knowledge of appropriate legislations
* Prior experience of managing a nuclear medicine radiopharmacy or pharmacy aseptic service
* Extensive medicine experience at supervisor level (>3 years post qualification NM experience minimum)
* Experience in protocol development and document control
* Experience in SPECT/CT imaging
* Teaching qualification or experience
* Practical skills in IV cannulation and administering radionuclides

* Ability to use initiative and be self‑motivated
* Tolerance and diplomacy
* Able to work within a multi-disciplinary team
