Job Description/Purpose
Working within a team, but often with minimal supervision or guidance, the fundamental requirement of this role is to produce CAD design deliverables, including 3D models, technical drawings and sketches for gas pipeline projects in the civil and structural department. Taking responsibility for working independently or leading a team on project sub tasks. Designs are communicated effectively to the BIM teams, other disciplines, construction personnel and stakeholders. Providing support and guidance to less experienced team members. Helping to develop processes and drive efficiencies within the CAD team.
Based in Manchester with occasional attendance required for site visits, design reviews and client meetings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare preliminary and detailed designs in 2D/3D for civil and structural, temporary and permanent works as requested by Principal or Lead Engineers and Designers.
2. Use a range of software including but not limited to Aveva E3D, Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Revit and Bentley Microstation and AECOsim/Openbuildings Designer.
3. Work within a Common Data Environment (typically ProjectWise).
4. Ensure that draughting activities are executed within budget and schedule, while maintaining technical integrity.
5. Ensure that work is carried out with relevant codes, standards and procedures. Maintain and develop awareness of current relevant codes and standards.
6. Implement company, and where applicable client/ project policies and procedures.
7. Effectively communicate with other disciplines to ensure that interfaces are clearly defined and correctly designed.
8. Liaise with other departments, project personnel, vendors, clients etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Competent in design and detailing of piping systems, process structures, foundations, below ground infrastructure, drainage, cable ducting, steel and concrete.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment and able to self-manage.
* Extensive industry experience at all stages of project lifecycle.
* Good knowledge of design working practices, UK legislation and standards.
Desirable
* Multiple industry sector experience including one or more of the following: Water, Nuclear, Oil and Gas, Highways, Rail, Energy, Green Energy.
Qualifications
Essential
* Qualified to City & Guilds or HNC/HND.
Desirable
* EngTech or I-Eng ICE professional qualification.
