Due to retirement a part time post has arisen for well-motivated and enthusiastic HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists to join our team in Laboratory Medicine at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
Applications are invited for:
HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (band 5 or 6 dependant on meeting person specification and experience).
As a Band 6 you will have an IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Biochemistry.
The laboratory is well equipped and highly regarded by its users, with a track record of excellent performance. It has just undergone a positive UKAS surveillance visit and is MHRA compliant
Hours of working: 15 hrs
Main duties of the job
The laboratory is an IBMS registered training laboratory.
There is a strong training ethos in the department and as a Biomedical Scientist you will be given the opportunity for CPD.
In your role you will undertake day to day analysis and validation of results, together with the monitoring of quality indicators. You will participate in out of hours shifts once trained and competent in the relevant areas. The Biochemistry laboratory has a managed service contract with Roche and is runs 2x Roche Cobas 8000 lines with associated preanalytical modules. The Biochemistry laboratory also has a Specialist Protein Section using Sebia and Binding Site systems.
Good communications skills, teamwork and an aptitude for problem solving are essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice. The Ideal candidate will be keen to develop their knowledge and skills.

Qualification
Essential criteria
1. BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
2. State Registration as Biomedical Scientist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
3. Post-graduate, post-registration training in the specialist area advertised, leading to a completed IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent) in the discipline advertised (or working towards)
Desirable criteria
4. Evidence of continuing professional development to demonstrate specialist knowledge
Knowledge
Essential criteria
5. Proven ability to understand all theoretical and practical aspects of laboratory procedures within the advertised discipline
6. Proven ability to work within all areas of the department (automated, manual and specialist
7. Proven ability to understand and interpret quality control / quality assurance process
8. Evidence of detailed working knowledge of standard IT packages

Experience
Essential criteria
10. At least two years’ experience as an HCPC registered biomedical scientist.
11. At least 2 years’ working experience in an ISO15189 accredited clinical/medical laboratory
12. Detailed working knowledge of laboratory information management systems
13. Maintaining the laboratory service and reporting results whilst lone working within your specified discipline
