Level 11 is a 9 bedded Gynaecology Ward based in Brighton, which caters for emergency and elective gynaecological surgery. We are the regional centre for the treatment of gynaecology cancers. The ward also accommodates the Early Pregnancy Unit, Gynaecology Assessment Unit and operates a Nurse Led Pre-operative Assessment Clinic.
We are a dynamic, friendly, supportive team we are seeking a caring, enthusiastic nurse with a positive approach with strong leadership and coaching skills.
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the professional evidence based nursing care delivered to patients. Ensuring the highest quality, effective and compassionate care is received by the patients and their families / carers whilst on the ward. Excellent, holistic and individualised nursing care will be delivered through assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating. This will be in line with local, Trust wide and National policies, procedures, values and behaviours.
To support the ward manager in providing effective clinical leadership that ensures patient safety at all times together with high quality patient care.
Promoting a supportive learning environment in which to supervise and mentor Staff Nurses, student nurses and Health Care Assistants. The post holder will act as an advocate whilst demonstrating effective communication and listening skills.
Main duties of the job

Level 11 Gynaecology ward is the regional centre for the treatment of Gynaecological cancers. We offer care to patients admitted for elective complex surgery and women’s health issues from a wide-ranging patient demographic. The unit also offers outpatient clinics including Early Pregnancy and gynaecology assessment unit.
Post holders will be expected to undertake training to ensure a basic knowledge or level of competence to be able to assist in the various procedures that are carried out in the gynaecology assessment unit. They will be expected to provide an effective, safe, evidence-based patient care in accordance with ‘The Code’ to women with gynaecological problems in the ward setting.
The post holder will be a registered nurse with the expertise and skills to be able to assess, plan and implement individual patient’s care; being accountable for their own actions. It requires highly developed communication and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise between primary and secondary care to ensure patients receive continuity in care. You will also be able to communicate sensitive and complex information to both patients and their carers or families.The purpose of this role is to act as a team leader whilst having a high degree of responsibility for the day-to-day operational running of the clinical area. The post holder will be expected to support and lead staff within the ward setting to ensure a high quality of service is delivered.
Post holders will ensure that patient flow is optimised throughout the department and continue to monitor and improve this by taking part in evaluating processes & systems.The post holder will work alongside the ward manager, deputising in their absence, in order to facilitate the gynaecology ward that meets strategic demands. You will assist the ward manager in meeting divisional goals and help to deliver & understand the targets set for each speciality in a constant drive for excellence.
You will need to ensure that patient flow is optimised throughout the department by developing and building on processes & systems through service development and change management. You will need to contribute to policy and practice change arising from audits /feedback/ complaints and be able to implement them within the setting.
As a member of the team, you will be expected to facilitate students and others to develop their competence through supervision, teaching and role modelling
