31.5 hours per week | Fixed Term Contract (1 academic year) | Term Time + INSET | Salary: National Living Wage | Reporting to: Lead SENDCo | Start: September 2026
The Learning Support Assistant will work collaboratively with teaching staff to meet the personal, social and curriculum needs of a pupil with an EHCP. The post-holder will encourage pupils to become independent learners, provide support for their welfare, and promote the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area, including supporting during exams, co-curricular lunchtime activities, and school trips.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with the differentiated delivery of the curriculum and provide feedback on progress to teaching staff and the SENCO.
* Support individuals and groups of pupils to complete structured learning activities.
* Monitor and record pupil progress, achievements and concerns, and report to teaching staff.
* Promote pupils' independence and establish positive relationships to support progress and attainment.
* Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and reporting in line with school policy.
* Assist in the production of learning resources and the invigilation of exams (e.g. reader, scribe).
* Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time and on trips/visits.

* A good standard of education, including English and Mathematics.
* Experience of working with young people in a relevant setting.
* Ability to relate well to young people and supervise and assist pupils.
* Good communication and excellent interpersonal skills.
* Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.
* Ability to make effective use of IT.
* A caring approach, professional outlook and flexible attitude to work.
* Knowledge of the concept of confidentiality.
* Willingness to work occasionally outside of contracted hours.
* NVQ Level 2 or above qualification appropriate to the post (desirable).
* Experience of supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs, or ASD (desirable).
