It's an exciting time to join our Highways Team here at Staffordshire County Council!
Although your base will be in Lichfield, we have highway maintenance teams working from several locations across the county and we can discuss flexible working options.
Main Responsibilities
As a member of the Highways Maintenance and Network Management team you will:
* Receive, prioritise, investigate and answer non‑routine and unplanned enquiries relating to highway drainage and other maintenance issues within the county.
* Conduct and coordinate investigations, applying engineering knowledge and experience to identify and prioritise solutions to highway drainage and other non‑routine maintenance issues.
* Prepare information for contractors to carry out required work, establishing and maintaining good relations to ensure work complies with contract documentation, maintains good communication, quality assurance and is effectively managed through to completion.
* Be responsible for project budgets for specific drainage and other minor capital maintenance works, ensuring estimated costs are accurate and best value, reviewing and recording compensation‑event changes, and support the development of capital forward programmes based on budgetary allowances.
* Establish, develop and maintain effective communications with contractors, supply‑chain partners, County Councillors, customers and other stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have experience in the management or delivery of reactive, routine, drainage and cyclical highway maintenance and the following:
* A Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
* Knowledge of statutory obligations of highway authorities, highway inspections and work identification procedures.
* Understanding of design standards, guidance and statutory requirements associated with highway drainage and other maintenance activities.
* Ability to develop and maintain partnerships to support ongoing service delivery.
* Good written, verbal and digital communication skills, with the ability to pitch communications at an appropriate level to the target audience.
