The Greater Manchester Resilience Hub is a unique, all age, mental health coordination service established after the Manchester Arena Attack on 22nd May 2017 since which a number of different programs have been commissioned.

The broad aims of this Pathfinder Partnership service are to:

* Create and improve pathways and partnership working approaches to the benefit of individuals with complex trauma related mental health needs associated with sexual assault and abuse.
* Improve access to professionals trained in identification of, and appropriate response to, complex trauma related mental health needs associated with sexual assault and abuse.
* For individuals with complex trauma related mental health needs the primary aim is to reduce complex trauma related symptoms and improve quality of life (improve individual wellbeing, reduce mental health symptomology, minimise harm and re-traumatisation, improve functioning (including social and occupational) and support healing and recovery).
* Encourage establishment of trauma-informed systems that have impact beyond this service.
* Build evidence base for the value of new approaches.


Main duties of the job

As a Highly Specialist Psychotherapist within the Hub pathfinder project you will:

* Work across all partner agencies but primarily within the hub and GM SARC (based at Manchester SARC) to:
* Refer potential clients into the pathway.
* Deliver formal clinical consultation to partner organisations.
* Present cases at consultation and panel sessions as required.
* Complete individual assessments and formulation.
* Deliver a range of interventions including stabilisation and therapy preparation work and some direct therapy.
* Provide specialist advice and consultation to partner agencies as required.
* Provide liaison and advocacy with other professional agencies including social services, probation, drug and alcohol services, housing etc.
* Play an active role in supporting the development of the Hub in becoming a GM centre of excellence in the care of those experiencing psychological difficulties as a result of involvement in a major incident or other trauma.
* Play an active role in the development of qualified and unqualified staff within the Hub and partner agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Post holder will be managed by the Clinical Team Leader (Operations).

* To provide assessments for specialist psychological interventions/individual therapy based on complex data from a variety of sources to clients of the Resilience Hub. Sources of data include: observations, self-report measures, semi-structured interviews with clients, their families and other professionals involved in the client’s care.
* To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological therapeutic interventions for individuals. Developing and refining formulations across a range of clients and psychological models.
* To contribute to the psychological understanding of trauma in adults, and offer guidance and supervision to a range of other professionals working to improve their clients’ mental health and other important outcomes.
* To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the entirety of your work within the Resilience Hub.
* To take an active role in the process of multi-disciplinary risk assessment, utilising clinical guidelines to support consultation and formulation processes within the Hub, documenting formulations and recommendations as appropriate.
* To support the other professionals to understand and take positive risks, as part of an agreed plan.
* To report adverse incidents and ensure documentation is detailed and supported by evidence.
* To provide effective and timely communication using all relevant means to ensure information about clients’ progress and any changes to risk profile are given to all relevant stakeholders internal and external to the service.
* To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients presenting issues, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems and support professionals in navigating mental health systems to facilitate access to the required services both within Greater Manchester and across the UK.
* To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the advice, consultation and formulation provided as a clinician within the Resilience Hub.
* To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
* To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of adults under the care of the Hub and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of multidisciplinary care.
* To provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care to the young people, adults and professionals supported through the Greater Manchester Resilience Hub.


Person specification


Qualifications

* Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology and registration with the Health Professions Council OR UKCP registered therapist with core professional qualification e.g. RMN; OT; MHSW and Masters or Doctoral level qualification in psychotherapy. OR BABCP/BACP accredited CBT/therapist with additional training in for example EMDR/DBT
* Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
* Post-qualification training in specialist therapeutic work with children, young people and families e.g. DBT, CBT, IPT, FT
* Specialist training in therapeutic approaches relevant to adults who have experienced trauma


Experience

* Previous experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist or highly specialist psychotherapist
* Experience of working with complex safeguarding of adults
* Experience of working with adults presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a wide range of care settings including outpatient, community and in-patient settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan, including caseload management
* Experience of assessing and intervening clinically around child protection issues
* Experience of representing psychology/psychological therapy within the context of multi-disciplinary care
* Experience of teaching multi-agency professionals including the identification of need and development of training packages
* Experience of clinical supervision/consultancy with multi-agency staff


Knowledge

* Highly specialised knowledge of mental health issues, including trauma
* Highly specialised knowledge of assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention around mental health
* Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of working with victims/survivors of sexual abuse/assault
* Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for adults who have experienced trauma
* Knowledge of adults with complex needs and autistic spectrum disorders
* Knowledge of child safeguarding and familiarity with local and national child protection procedures
* Knowledge of a range of services typically involved with families with complex needs


Skills

* Highly developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
* Ability to work with a range of professionals from a range of agencies
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
* Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, including psychometric assessment
