Generation Engineer (Mechanical Engineer)
We are looking for a Generation Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) to cover the south region, including Bath, Gloucester, and Slough areas.
Job Role
Reporting to Operations Manager.
The Company is seeking an experienced individual to maintain and repair large reciprocating internal combustion generators. Facilities range from 100kW to 20MWe, with the largest generator rating currently at 2.5MWe.
The premise of the role is to take responsibility for repair, maintenance, and ultimately operational availability for generation assets in the fleet. The goal is to maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility—when commercially beneficial—for the operation and maintenance of as much plant and equipment as possible.
Key responsibilities include operating and maintaining our own generating assets, gas processing plant, and electrical systems to ensure safe electrical output and achieve maximum production.
The aim of the Company is to develop a successful, sustainable, and profitable business based on gas utilisation, O&M services, solar, and energy storage.

* Replace worn components as required due to wear, failure, or schedule—e.g., cylinder heads, piston/liner packs, turbochargers, exhaust and induction systems, oil pumps, and intercoolers.
* Lead the overhaul of reciprocating generating assets.
* Day‑to‑day maintenance and operation, including fault location, diagnosis, and rectification.
* Planned maintenance delivery and breakdown response for generation assets, with minimum outages.
* Seek guidance and advice from Engineering and Management teams when unsure.
* Avoid unnecessary expenditure by using available skills and tools.
* List and order correct components, gaskets, and incidentals for scheduled overhaul and repairs.
* Ensure a stock of essential spare parts is replenished and available for breakdowns or unscheduled overhaul.
* Commitment to Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental practices, following all procedures and using judgement.
* Reduce reliance on contractors where economically prudent.
* Compliance and implementation of legislation and company protection procedures, with proactive monitoring, reporting, and auditing.
* Continuous enhancement of skills and knowledge, and that of team members working with you.
* Manage time and travel effectively, minimizing home time when appropriate.
* Utilise and comply with company operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping and stock control systems.
* Execute all generation asset maintenance and overhaul, using Operations staff for minor/major maintenance as required.
* Perform maintenance and repair of mechanical, heat, and electrical plant, including pumps and motors.
* Recommission overhauled assets and associated equipment.
* Conduct emissions monitoring of generation assets.
* Train, support, and supervise area staff for maintenance and simple fault finding.
* Provide emergency call‑out cover for generation asset failure/outage.
* Order and control spares and stock.
* Maintain and inspect LV electrical equipment (subject to training and competency).
* Operate HV switchgear (subject to training and competency).
* Represent the company positively by maintaining clean, well‑run sites and engaging with customers and the public.
* Supervise contractors.
* Implement HSQE systems and comply with environmental protection procedures, proactively monitoring, reporting, and auditing company systems.
Requirements
* Extensive experience leading the overhaul of reciprocating generating assets in a field service environment.
* Knowledge of MWM/CATCG/MTU equipment.
* Familiarity with electrical, heat, and mechanical maintenance.
* Fault location, diagnosis, and rectification skills.
* GasSafe accreditation (or ability to complete accreditation within probation).
* Electrical skill or relevant experience in the field.
* Knowledge of electric control systems 12 V DC, 415 V AC, 30 V.
* Computer literate.
* Full UK driver’s licence.
