Clinical Teaching Fellow - Gastroenterology & General Medicine

An exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified medical practitioner to join Hywel Dda University Health Board's progressive team of medical educators, in the role of Medical Education Teaching Fellow for the department of Gastroenterology and General Medicine in Glangwili General Hospital.
This full‑time clinical teaching fellow role is a 12‑month fixed term position. The role includes supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across all medical specialties, and providing generic teaching sessions for all medical students.
The position combines medical education with clinical practice, enabling the successful candidate to maintain and enhance their expertise in a specialty that aligns with their particular interest. The successful candidate will also be allocated time within the working week for continuing professional development.
The Health Board supports a bilingual workforce; the ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. If you do not meet the Welsh language requirements specified, learning options are available to help you meet the minimal requirements during employment.
Main duties of the job
* Provide ward‑based and classroom teaching to medical students, physician associate students and resident doctors.
* Support individual learning needs through activities such as case‑based discussions, history‑taking assessments and workplace‑based assessments.
* Facilitate undergraduate tutorials in line with Cardiff and Swansea Medical School curricula.
* Contribute to Foundation, IMT and GPST core teaching programmes, Health Board Grand Rounds and simulation‑based education in collaboration with the Clinical Skills and Simulation Tutor.
* Support medical students and resident doctors through pastoral care, engagement with the Resident Doctors Forum and assistance with feedback collection and the GMC National Training Survey.
* Support and train overseas Clinical Fellows and International Medical Graduates.
* Assist with the organisation of Royal College examinations and mock exams.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support innovation in medical education.
* Undertake a postgraduate qualification in Medical Education (if not already held) and maintain a reflective learning portfolio.
Qualifications & Knowledge
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
* Valid Certified Advanced Life Support skills.
* MBBS or recognised equivalent.
Experience
* Completion of at least 2 years postgraduate experience (or part‑time equivalent).
* Experience working within the NHS.
* Ability to demonstrate teamwork.
Teaching
* Willingness to participate in teaching and training.
* Demonstrated previous experience in teaching.
Other
* Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
* Flexible approach to meet service needs.
* Welsh speaker (Level 1).
Clinical Governance
* Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding of the role of audit in improving medical practice.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Pay
Depending on experience £47,946 – £62,821 per annum.
