The starting salary for this permanent, full-time position is £32,512 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

About the Role

The Mental Health Service within Adult Social Care delivers services to all Surrey residents who meet social care criteria in relation to their mental health needs, in line with the Care Act. Our goal is for service-users to be able to make informed choices about the services they access, be more in control of their care and to be active citizens within their community.

As a Senior Social Care Assistant, you will work in partnership with individuals, their carers, professional staff from other agencies, service providers, and Support Brokers to support vulnerable adults and their families. Your role will involve helping them identify and arrange services that meet their needs, while promoting independence, choice, and control.

You will have frequent direct contact with the public on the phone as well as visiting people in their own home or care setting. Your role will involve a variety of tasks including assessing people's needs and carrying out regular reviews.

You will have a caseload and work with individuals who need additional support or guidance in order to identify their needs or where best interest decisions need to be made on their behalf. They may need close monitoring or frequent review or interventions to minimise and manage risk. You may be involved in carrying out risk assessments and supporting safeguarding investigations, attending safeguarding meetings with the support of qualified practitioners.

Shortlisting Criteria

This role will suit someone with some professional experience in social care and who enjoys a public facing role.

To be shortlisted for an interview your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence:

* Substantial experience of working directly with people with social care needs, including visiting them in their own homes
* Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office packages
* Ability to work on your own initiative and respond flexibly to changing priorities
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
