Are you an experienced Project Manager looking for an exciting opportunity to deliver high-profile capital projects within a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Project Manager (Capital Projects) to join our Transformation Service, reporting to the Project Delivery Manager. This is a fantastic role where you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of capital projects, ensuring successful delivery, stakeholder engagement, and adherence to quality and budgetary standards.
The Role
As Project Manager (Capital Projects), your key responsibilities will include:
* Managing the successful delivery of capital projects from initiation to completion, including scoping, planning, execution, and evaluation.
* Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external contractors, and suppliers to ensure effective project delivery.
* Conducting regular project reviews, monitoring progress against milestones, and implementing appropriate corrective actions when necessary.
* Managing project budgets, ensuring accurate financial forecasting, and controlling expenditure.
* Preparing and presenting project reports to senior management and relevant governance boards.
* Ensuring compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
* Identifying and managing project risks and issues, implementing mitigation strategies as required.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
* Proven experience in project management, specifically within a local authority or similar environment.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of capital project delivery, including construction and engineering principles.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence individuals at all levels.
* Demonstrated experience in managing project budgets and financial forecasting.
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
* Relevant project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM) is desirable.
Please note this role is fixed term for a year after start date – Time limited project.
