NewsWise for Libraries workshop facilitator
Contract type: Casual worker, January 2026 - August 2027
Location: Devon and Torbay (travel within the region required)
Hours: The role will involve 5 - 10 shifts (full or half days) primarily during school holidays and occasionally weekends. Work will begin January 2026 and run through August 2026, with potential renewal for a second year until August 2027. As casual employment, shifts are not guaranteed.
About the role: This is a crucial role delivering The Guardian Foundation’s news and media literacy program. Key responsibilities include:
* Facilitating librarian training sessions
* Delivering and co‑delivering media literacy workshops in libraries
* Attending initial training and shadowing sessions
* Supporting programme evaluation through feedback surveys
* Assisting with internal and external reporting (project updates)
* Maintaining accurate records and communications with the project team
* Representing The Guardian Foundation professionally, aligning with its values and mission
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced workshop and training facilitator to deliver high‑quality workshops for children aged 7‑11, equipping librarians to run interactive news and media literacy workshops. The role may also involve independent facilitation of workshops.
About you:
* Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating workshops or training sessions
* Confident delivering sessions to children aged 7‑11 and their families, as well as to librarians
* Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of library settings
* Passion for media literacy and empowering young people
* Understanding of local community needs
* Excellent communication, presentation, organisational and time‑management skills
* Confident using digital tools in a workshop setting
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively
* Willingness to travel within Devon and Torbay
* Commitment to safeguarding, equality and diversity
