The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) is an independent charity working towards a fairer, greener, and more prosperous society. Our pioneering research and ideas have shaped progressive policy making for more than three decades. From making the early case for the minimum wage and taking regional inequality to the top of the political agenda, to proposing a windfall tax on energy companies, our research and policy work puts forward bold but actionable solutions for the crises facing society - to enable justice, progress and change.
About The Role
We are at an incredibly exciting time for the organisation, and we are looking to recruit a researcher to join our economy and environment team to support our research and advocacy.
You will work predominantly on environmental policy, for example supporting our work on housing policy, clean industrial strategy, and work on energy demand – as well as supporting other projects across the team including economic issues. You’ll play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the team, providing research, project and administrative support and organising events.
The role offers the chance to develop a career within research and policy, and the successful candidate will be supported to progress within and/or outside of IPPR.
About You
If you have demonstrable skills in research and quantitative research methods, excellent writing skills and a good understanding of one or more of the following areas – energy, transport, environment and nature, climate, housing, planning and infrastructure, or economic policy - this is the ideal job for you. With a passion for the interaction of policy and politics, you’ll be driven by your interest in policy debates, deepening your understanding and desire to create progressive change.
You will be well-organised, thrive in a fast-paced environment and be confident collaborating with a range of stakeholders to further IPPR’s impact. You’ll have excellent administration skills and attention to detail, enabling you to work independently, complete tasks on time and support the team to stay on track.
IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional and lived experiences. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide.
This post will be based in our London office, right at the heart of Westminster, with staff expected to be in the office at least 40 per cent of their working hours. You’ll also need to be willing to travel and undertake some work out of hours occasionally, including attending conferences and events. As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant to fill the post, including job-share or part-time working. All options can be discussed at interview stage.
If you're interested in applying and excited about working with us but are unsure if you have the right skills and experience, we'd still love to hear from you.
