Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
* Providing Youth Work support that is holistic, person‑centred, trauma‑informed, and needs‑led for young people aged 11–25 years who are at risk of or have experienced homelessness in Neath Port Talbot.
* Developing and delivering a range of Youth Work interventions for children and young people up to the age of 18 years old living in temporary accommodation due to family homelessness.
* Providing preventative support to young people up to the age of 25 years who are at risk of experiencing youth homelessness, aiming to prevent the occurrence of homelessness.
* Working with young people who have experienced homelessness and supporting them through other services and providers, including the transition from Children to Adult Services, as a consistent and trusted adult in their journey.
* Working with families/carers to strengthen relationships, improve communication and reduce conflict, aiming to support young people to remain at home wherever possible.
* Developing awareness‑raising resources and sessions for young people and professionals to prevent youth homelessness.
* Maintaining a caseload and ensuring satisfactory outcomes for young people through direct intervention, support mechanisms and, when necessary, referral to specialists.
* Ensuring robust and accurate record‑keeping that meets Youth Service and funding requirements.
* Collaborating with a range of organisations and partners to contribute to national, regional and local priorities.
* Implementing quality assurance procedures, including project proposals, session records, contact logs, registration and evaluation forms.
* Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
* Attending annual appraisal, supervision and relevant meetings.
* Contributing to the collection of monitoring information and providing regular verbal and written updates to managers and funders.
* Pursuing continual professional development through internal and external training opportunities.
* Adhering to Corporate Health and Safety Policy and taking action on hazards, including risk assessment and reporting accidents/incidents.
* Informing line management of concerns that may trigger Local Authority policies, such as child protection, grievances, complaints or disciplinary matters.
* Actively promoting equality of opportunity and diversity in service delivery in accordance with Local Authority equal opportunity policies.
* Carrying out other relevant duties in accordance with authorities’ policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience working with young people aged 11–25 in a non‑formal or informal setting.
* Experience planning and delivering one‑to‑one and group activities.
* Experience supporting young people through partnership working with other professionals.
* Experience working with families in the context of supporting young people.
* Experience supporting young people with housing needs and guiding them toward independent living.
* Experience helping young people living in temporary accommodation with families overcome difficulties.
Ideal: Experience supporting young people to develop life skills to thrive as young adults.
Education and Registration
* National youth work qualification required for registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC). If you do not have one, we will consider applicants willing to achieve a nationally recognised Youth Work Qualification within 2 years of appointment.
* Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) before employment commences is mandatory.
