Offer description

Ready to make a meaningful impact in cancer care? We’re looking for a compassionate, forward-thinking pharmacist to join our dedicated Cancer Pharmacy Team.

At Great Western Hospital, we’re proud to deliver high-quality haematology and oncology services to a diverse population across Swindon and Wiltshire. As a Specialist Cancer Pharmacist, you’ll be at the heart of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team—working closely with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide truly patient-centred care.

You’ll contribute across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, the day treatment unit, and our JACIE-accredited stem cell transplant service. We’re also part of the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, offering opportunities to engage with regional networks and help shape cancer services beyond our Trust.

We’re investing in the future of cancer care. Our state‑of‑the‑art aseptic unit is nearing completion, and our new radiotherapy centre is already transforming lives—providing advanced treatment locally and reducing the need for patients to travel. These developments, alongside innovations in electronic prescribing and robotic dispensing, reflect our commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and patient‑focused services.

You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, including our Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technicians, and encouraged to lead on service development, new medicines implementation, and quality improvement projects.

Whether you’re an experienced oncology/haematology pharmacist (Band 7) or a clinical pharmacist ready to specialise (Band 6 development role), we’ll support your growth with structured training, mentorship, and opportunities to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Oncology and non‑medical prescribing.

Join a team that values compassion, collaboration, and continuous learning—where your voice matters and your work transforms lives.

* Screen, dispense and issue intrathecal injections according to Trust and National Guidance.
* liaise with the Oncology and Haematology teams regarding chemotherapy treatments, and provide advice and clinical support as required.
* Work with the Accountable pharmacist to ensure, maintain and develop facilities, equipment and work practices to achieve the highest technical standards.
* Act as an Authorised Pharmacist and supervise day‑to‑day preparation of products and release for use in accordance with local, regional and national guidelines.
* Work closely with the Aseptic technical team and Cancer Pharmacy Team to co‑ordinate treatment provision to the Day Therapy Unit, haematology inpatient unit and other medical wards requiring high‑risk injectable medicines.
* Ensure Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit operates in accordance with current legislation and guidance including GMP, GCP, GDP, Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services, RPSGB Code of Ethics, Health and Safety, Medicines Act, COSHH and Departmental Procedures.
* Perform final release of products purchased as unlicensed ready‑to‑administer doses from Specials Manufacturers, and maintain competence in this area.
* Be fully aware of the processes used to accurately and consistently prepare, dispense and release a wide range of aseptic products including cytotoxics, epidurals, intrathecals, antibiotics, parenteral nutrition, high‑risk injectables and novel agents.
