Liverpool University Hospitals are seeking to recruit a Domestic Supervisor for our Royal Liverpool Hospital site. The Domestic team at LUHFT make a difference, and we are looking for passionate, highly motivated and organised people to join our busy team.
The post holder will be responsible for the rota coordination of a team of 300 staff, planning, coordinating and optimising staff rosters to meet operational requirements, compliance standards and the overall needs of the department. This role is 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday 10:00 – 15:00, with occasional late finishes, weekend and bank holiday working required.
Responsibilities
* Rota coordination of substantive and temporary staff to ensure seamless staffing needs.
* Develop and maintain Microsoft Office spreadsheets – proficient in Office Suite.
* Supervise performance of staff, ensuring approved SOPs are followed and cleaning of all Trust areas meets national and Trust required standards.
* Operate the team to the highest standards of customer care, safety and efficiency.
* Cover absences within the supervision team and complete all relevant documentation.
* Sanction domestic holidays, maintaining agreed levels per team.
* Follow procedures for cleaning requests from Infection control and ensure correct documentation.
* Attend mandatory training courses even if outside normal shift times.
* Support all staff and facilitate induction and job‑specific training, ensuring proper training on equipment and chemicals.
* Arrange short‑term absence cover to maintain coverage of all areas.
* Adjust daily service provision on a short‑term basis where staff absences or incidents occur.
* Liaise with service users and local managers regarding issues that may affect service delivery or standards, reporting concerns to line management.
* Complete regular quality‑control checks and facilitate remedial action when necessary.
* Arrange, plan and deliver specific cleaning for periodic tasks.
* Risk‑assess, plan and control highly complex cleaning processes (e.g. hydrogen peroxide fogging) ensuring compliance to environmental control and H&S procedures.
* Conduct general risk assessments for new tasks or areas and submit to line managers.
* Report all accidents and defects with machinery or buildings using the appropriate reporting system.
* Monitor and control use & storage of cleaning consumables, requisitioning additional stock as required.
* Maintain departmental control procedures covering consumables and staff deployment.
* Manage the team within strict financial parameters set by line manager, explaining variances from planned expenditure.
* Conduct staff interviews covering appraisal, sickness, bereavement, discipline and grievance, reporting concerns to line manager per Trust policy.
* Maintain ongoing appraisal and personal development plans for staff per Trust policy.
* Demonstrate leadership, act as a role model, motivate staff and maintain high standards of personal hygiene and appearance.
* Support the management team for Domestic Services at the Trust.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
* Experience within a healthcare environment is beneficial.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong organisational and planning skills.
* Flexibility for occasional late finishes, weekends and bank holidays.
* Knowledge of cleaning operations and health‑and‑safety procedures is desirable.
