We are committed to developing an advanced practice model that enhances patient outcomes, supports clinical leadership, and promotes innovative, multidisciplinary care delivery.

We are seeking to recruit 3 x Advanced Practitioner (Band 8a) to join the Emergency Medicine Division at Watford General Hospital. This role supports both the nursing and medical teams within the Emergency Department. You will work as part of a dynamic and dedicated team, providing leadership, clinical expertise, advice, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to patients from their first point of contact through to admission or discharge.

Applications will also be considered for a Trainee Advanced Practitioner post.


Essential requirements for the trainee position:

* Registered RGN or other allied health professional
* First degree in a health-related discipline (must include a research-focused module)
* Registered with the relevant professional body (e.g. NMC, HCPC)
* Extensive Experience of working in urgent or emergency care settings


Main duties of the job

This exciting opportunity will include early assessment of patients, access to investigations, consultation, independent prescribing, and liaison with medical, nursing, AHP and support teams. The post-holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and integrity to make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.

As we operate a 7-day service, the postholder will be required to work a variety of shifts covering a 7-day rota across all areas within the Emergency Division

Person specification


Education and qualifications:

* Registered with relevant professional body.(i.e NMC, HCPC).
* MSc in advanced Practice.
* Teaching & Assessing qualification.
* Non – Medical prescriber.
* ALS Provider.
* Leadership course.
* ALS instructor.


Knowledge:

* Advanced clinical knowledge within Emergency Medicine.
* Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding issues.
* Working within a diverse community.
* Demonstrates an understanding of both the health and social care agenda.
* Risk assessment and management.
* Knowledge of case management.
* Understanding of the legal framework for working at an advanced level.
* Shows an understanding of the challenges of communicating across professional boundaries.
* Able to teach in a group setting.
* Involvement in National agenda.
* Ability to influence and advise senior managers.
* Evidence of service redevelopment work.
* Initiation or participation in audit/research projects.


Experience:

* Experience of working as a qualified ACP within Acute/Urgent care or clinical speciality.
* Proven track record in Acute care settings.
* Evidence of managing complex patients in a stressful and emotional situation where life changing events are being communicated and clinically managed.
* Experience of designing and delivering training and education for healthcare professionals.
* Direct supervision of junior staff.
* Evidence of lead for or contribution to audit programmes within practice.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and practical application of new skills to the workplace.
* Experience of delivering training and education for healthcare professionals.
* Experience of developing protocols & policies.
* Evidence of using clinical Governance framework to influence care and improve outcome.
