Job Overview
Module Tutor – Engineering (General) – 100% on‑site at the Oxford college campus. Fixed‑term casual worker for the summer programme (July 5 – July 16, July 20 – July 31).
Responsibilities
* Deliver a structured 12‑day programme across two cohorts, including 7 days of teaching. Provide clear, engaging 45‑minute morning lectures to classes of 30–35 students on topics covering mechanics, electrical, civil, manufacturing, software, aerospace, and chemical engineering.
* Administrative Duties – review equipment and material needs for each class.
* Foster a positive learning environment that is warm, inclusive and encourages collaborative idea sharing.
* Complete required training – participate in induction to learn logistical requirements, company procedures and safeguarding responsibilities.
* Teaching Materials & Flexibility – apply the supplied outline and course handbook, modifying content to suit teaching style and student needs.
* Conduct a Drone/UAV module separately – not part of this role.
Teaching Schedule
The typical teaching day includes 45‑minute lectures followed by interactive discussion and practical application.
Compensation
* Training – paid induction at £25 per hour (typically 2–3 hours).
* Prep Time – 1 hour of paid prep time at £25 per hour.
* Total Estimated Compensation: £500–£630 (includes teaching, prep time and mandatory training).
Person Specification
* Subject Expertise – confident teaching foundational concepts across multiple general engineering areas.
* Inspirational Teacher – passion for motivating students and developing understanding through interactive, discussion‑based learning.
* Strong Communication – exceptional ability to break down technical engineering concepts into accessible, engaging explanations for mixed‑ability groups.
* Adaptability – adjust teaching strategies for varied learning styles, cultural backgrounds and differing levels of prior STEM knowledge.
* Organisational Skills – manage lesson planning, equipment preparation, workshop set‑up and administrative responsibilities for a busy 12‑day programme.
* Prior teaching experience in Engineering or a closely related field, preferably in tutorial settings at Oxford or a similar institution.
* Proven expertise in designing and delivering academic content for young learners.
* Ability to teach a wide range of topics within the subject area.
* Current PhD candidate or above at Oxford.
* Experience teaching non‑native students.
* Experience with residential summer schools or summer camps.
* Experience teaching students aged 14‑18.
Additional Requirements
* Successful candidates must attend mandatory online and in‑person training sessions prior to the start of the programme.
