ABOUT BALANCED ECONOMY PROJECT AND THE ROLE

Balanced Economy Project is an anti-monopoly organisation dedicated to tackling monopolies and excessive concentration of economic and financial power. We are a small but mighty, remote organisation. We currently focus mostly on the EU and UK, but our scope is potentially global. This role will lead, implement and coordinate BEP´s overall strategic advocacy and community strategy, and play a key role in other areas. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience or a fast learner, who is strongly self-motivated, already interested in the issues, and likes a challenge.





JOB PURPOSE

A key objective for BEP is catalysing, supporting, and helping build and coordinate, a robust global anti-monopoly movement, for which the networks and partnerships lead will play a central role. You will join us as a vital member of a small, dynamic team. You would potentially work with a wide range of partners in different sectors across the political spectrum, including non-profit organisations, small businesses, politicians, journalists, academics, regulators and others. We are looking for an organiser, ideally with a background in economic justice and some knowledge of competition policy and the anti-monopoly movement.


The key tasks of the role are to lead on developing and implementing Balanced Economy Project’s networks and alliance-building strategy promoting influential anti-monopoly narratives and policy change, and building strategic partnerships, identifying potential partners, developing strategies, and managing relationships to drive mutual growth and influence. The Networks and Partnerships Lead will also contribute to shaping policy narratives and advocacy strategies that represent community voices and drive systemic change. The Lead will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the Communications and Engagement Lead. Line Management of other roles may also be required.


1. Key Responsibilities



* Lead the development and implementation Balanced Economy Project’s networks and alliance-building strategy in coordination with the ED and colleagues.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including anti-monopoly organisations, NGOs, institutions, think-tanks, academia, unions and funders.
* Support the European Anti-monopoly Network in collaboration with network partners by helping to convene, shape and deliver strategy, sharing information and analysis, and helping to organise events and network activities.
* Lead work on breaking the power of tech monopolies, including direct involvement in collaborative projects and campaigns; for example, ‘break up’ Google in the EU, or a cross-border action to stop a Big Tech merger.
* Outreach to new and innovative partnerships that might include small businesses in retail, manufacturing and marketing, grass-roots organisations, farmers, artists and creatives, depending on strategic priorities and opportunity.
* Coordinate with BEP colleagues on strategy, policy and communications to ensure partnerships are integrated effectively and aligned with our goals.
* Work with the ED to cultivate senior-level relationships as part of the networks and partnership strategy.
* Support fundraising strategies by cultivating relationships with a diverse range of funders.
* Monitor and evaluate networking and partnership activities and provide regular reports, including relevant insights and recommendations.



2. Qualifications and Experience



Essential attributes for a successful candidate will include:



* A proven talent for translating a strong vision and strategy for ‘movement- building’ into nuts-and-bolts tasks needed to put this vision into practice.
* Established skills and experience of building and nurturing durable partnerships and relationships.
* Experience of reaching out to cold and warm contacts, working with varied partners, managing multiple workstreams, and prioritising.
* Comfortable working with colleagues in a fast-moving start-up environment with emerging strategy and management systems.
* Self-motivation and a social-entrepreneurial attitude.
* Strong interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
* Some experience in an economic justice field is strongly preferred. Familiarity with competition policy and digital economy is ideal.
* Commitment to social justice, equity, and the mission of the organisation.



Desirable attributes include:



* Experience forming or coordinating networks or similar, ideally in an NGO context.
* Ability to operate in other languages (e.g. French, German, Spanish) to complement English as the working language.


3. Working Conditions

* Flexible working hours
* Some evening / weekend work may be required
* Travel to communities, partner locations, and advocacy events may be required.

* 25 days´ paid annual leave excluding statutory holidays on your working days in your country of residence, plus a day off on your birthday.
