Teacher of English (Maternity Cover), Part-Time (0.8 FTE) A suitably qualified and experienced Teacher of English is required to provide 0.8 FTE maternity leave cover from March 2026. The working pattern for this post is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The post-holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages. The ability to teach English Literature or combined Language and Literature at Sixth Form level is desirable. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning * Deliver consistently effective teaching that secures good or better progress for all learners. * Plan, prepare and deliver well-structured lessons that engage, challenge and motivate students. * Maintain high expectations of achievement, behaviour and conduct. * Use a range of teaching strategies and resources to support learning and promote literacy, communication and independent study skills. * Assess, record and report on students’ progress in line with departmental and professional standards. * Set appropriate homework to consolidate and extend learning. Achievement * Monitor student progress at individual and cohort level, ensuring timely intervention where required. * Support students in making rapid and sustained progress from their starting points. Behaviour, Personal Development and Safety * Establish a purposeful, safe and positive learning environment. * Implement behaviour management strategies consistently and in accordance with professional expectations. * Promote student well-being, safeguarding and awareness of safe practices, including online safety. * Address low-level disruption promptly to ensure a high-quality learning experience. Curriculum and Departmental Contribution * Contribute to the planning, evaluation and ongoing development of the English curriculum. * Participate in departmental self-review, quality assurance processes and collaborative planning. * Support the promotion of high standards, professional conduct and a positive departmental ethos. * Engage in relevant professional development and whole-staff training. Additional Duties * Undertake form tutor responsibilities if required. * Attend scheduled meetings and contribute to wider departmental and whole-school initiatives. * Uphold professional standards of communication, conduct and punctuality.
