Band 6 Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist

The Physiotherapy team works as part of Inclusion Services within the Children and Families Division of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We work across the whole City, within a range of community and educational settings, thus requiring successful applicants to demonstrate a high level of flexibility.

You will be responsible for the assessment and ongoing physiotherapeutic management of children in a designated schools/clinics and community area. The Post holder will competently assess and deliver Physiotherapy (PT) programmes to children in the service without the need for direct supervision and will be accountable for their own clinical work as well as to their nominated supervisor.

The post holder will be supporting the service with reducing the current waiting list for assessments and treatments of children in the community.

To be responsible for the assessment and ongoing physiotherapeutic management of children in a designated schools/clinics and community area. The Post holder will competently assess and deliver Physiotherapy (PT) programmes to children in the service without the need for direct supervision and will be accountable for their own clinical work as well as to their nominated supervisor.

Candidates will act as a source of clinical expertise/advice and guidance for families, carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team, including Health, Education and Social Care and Health staff.

Job responsibilities

* To be responsible for a clinical caseload and monitor own and others workload/treatment methods in order to maintain high professional standards.
* To be professionally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including the management of children on the caseload.
* To assess and reassess the needs of the child, analysing and interpreting the information gathered, and formulate a treatment plan, seeking support from more senior physiotherapists as necessary.
* To provide care plans to meet goals and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions using appropriate outcome measures and make any necessary modifications.
* Implementation of an appropriate package of Physiotherapy care, by developing intervention packages to be delivered as a group or one to one sessions by the Physiotherapist or Physiotherapy assistant.
* To carry out visits to education settings or home visits as appropriate teaching others to carry out activities as appropriate to support treatment goals.
* To provide specialist physiotherapy advice and suggestions to other professionals involved
* Deliver a range of treatments, following departmental care pathways where appropriate, including Physiotherapeutic handling and positioning; group work; serial casting; hydrotherapy.Assess, provide and monitor the use of therapeutic equipment including seating, standing, other positioning and mobility equipment, orthotics and wheelchairs.


Person Specification


Qualifications / training

* Physiotherapy Degree or equivalent
* Registration with the Health Professions Council.


Experience

* Significant relevant Paediatrics Physiotherapy experience
* Experience in the community/ Special school/mainstream school settings


Skills and knowledge

* Ability to record electronically or generate written communication, which is relevant concise, accurate and legible
* Knowledge of different models of practice in physiotherapy
* Proven ability to liaise and work with other professionals and agencies.
* Proven ability to be an active member of a physiotherapy team
* Demonstrates ability to work independently and to prioritise workload
* Knowledge of the use of Orthotics, Special seating and other specialist children's positioning equipment
* Awareness of the implications of Education Health and Care Plans of the children with special educational needs.
* Ability to communicate verbally in a manner appropriate to a variety of parties, dealing with sensitive and complex information, and taking into account barriers to communication.
* Thorough appreciation of the role of carers
* Understanding of the principles of clinical effectiveness.


Personal Qualities

* Ability to travel to various locations
* Awareness of recent clinical development and professional issues
