Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) 40% FTE

Applications are invited for the above temporary part‑time (40% FTE) post working in the School of Psychology and Sports Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative project between the School and British Isles DBT Training to deliver a national, NHS England funded, distance‑learning programme of PG Dip training in DBT.

This post will provide outstanding opportunities to develop skills in teaching, supervising and delivering DBT alongside international experts in the treatment. It would suit an experienced DBT therapist interested in using their knowledge and experience to develop the next generation, or a graduate of the PG Diploma in DBT keen to develop their academic and clinical skills. You will work closely alongside the Deputy Directors and Programme Director to deliver the programme with a focus on teaching; monitoring student progress; assignment marking. Opportunities to maintain clinical work within a DBT programme will be encouraged.

Candidate must be an accredited DBT therapist with the Society of DBT in the UK and Ireland. Experience of teaching psychological therapy at an HEI level would be a distinct advantage. The programme is distance‑learning and is delivered totally online at present, so remote working is possible for this role.

The School of Psychology and Sport Science conducts world‑leading research in cognitive neuroscience, clinical interventions, psychological wellbeing, elite performance, physical activity, and health and applied human physiology. In the recent Research Excellence Framework Exercise, 86% of Psychology outputs were rated as either 3* or 4*. Bangor University is one of the only universities in Wales to hold Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework.


Purpose of the Job

* To teach at postgraduate level.
* To develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment and contribute to module co‑ordination.
* To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
* To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Programme Director.


Main Duties and Responsibilities


Teaching Duties Will Include

* Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
* Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning, and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
* Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments.
* Contribute to the development of new programmes and module co‑ordination.
* Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
* Publish evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.


Administrative And Wider Contribution Duties Will Include

* Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the programme.
* Contribute to the School's management, and participate in the administration of postgraduate programmes (e.g. contribute to accreditation/QA procedures).
* Contribute to the marketing of the programmes by participating in marketing initiatives.
* Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Programme Director.

Person Specification


Essential


Qualifications/Training

* Professional accreditation as a mental health professional.
* Accredited DBT therapist with SfDBT.


Desirable

* Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or be close to the completion OR Recognised by the HEA as a Fellow / Recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF.


Experience/Knowledge


Essential

* Effective teaching capability in DBT and / or psychological therapy.


Desirable

* Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
* Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
* Evidence of scholarship relating to learning and teaching through publication of books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
* Evidence of Conference and/or seminar presentations on pedagogy.


Skills/Abilities


Essential

* Ability to develop innovative and exciting approaches to teaching.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Excellent verbal and written skills.
* Demonstrable IT Skills as required (e.g. VLE techniques and other forms of learning technologies).


Desirable

* Trained to reliability in the DBT Adherence measure or working towards this.
