Housing Officers
3-month contract
Location: Medway, Kent – Hybrid working
Salary: £13.75 per hour (PAYE) or £17.95 per hour (umbrella)

Our client is seeking a team of dedicated Housing Officers to oversee Council-owned temporary housing for homeless households. This role ensures properties are safe, compliant, and well-maintained, while supporting residents to sustain their accommodation and move on to permanent housing.
You’ll manage placements, coordinate repairs, inspect properties, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners. The role also involves safeguarding responsibilities and supporting residents with housing options, welfare advice, and tenancy compliance.
Responsibilities include:
* Managing the day-to-day operations of temporary accommodation
* Coordinating placements, voids, and property standards
* Liaising with contractors and internal teams for maintenance and safety
* Conducting inspections and suitability assessments under the Housing Act 1996
* Supporting residents with housing options and tenancy compliance
* Referring vulnerable cases to MASH and attending safeguarding meetings
* Ensuring properties meet HHSRS and Decent Homes standards
* Handling refusals, discharges of duty, and suitability reviews
* Promoting independence and well-being among residents
Candidate requirements:
* GCSEs including Maths and English or equivalent Level 2 housing qualification
* Up-to-date knowledge of Housing Acts, Homelessness legislation, and welfare systems
* Experience supporting vulnerable households and managing housing placements
* Strong understanding of statutory housing obligations and property standards
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Desirable: CIH Level 3 Award in Housing Practice and CPD evidence
