Overview
We seek to appoint an inspiring, enthusiastic and resilient Maths teacher to join our unique and amazing school, which offers an alternative educational approach to students in Key Stages 3 and 4. Southway has two core values: “give hope” and “build healthy relationships”. The ideal candidate must embrace these values, being exceptional at forming relationships with hard-to-reach children, and skilled at immersing themselves into our vibrant setting.
The vacancy has arisen due to the promotion of one of the current maths teachers to a Leadership role, which reduces teaching capacity in this critical subject area. We are keen to strengthen our teaching capacity by inviting skilled colleagues to join us on this exciting journey. We are looking to appoint an inspirational maths teacher who can unpack the subject in a way that makes it accessible to a wide range of abilities and engagement levels; our colleagues typically work with smaller class sizes, but skilful differentiation and the ability to effectively deploy support staff in the classroom are a critical requirement.
Southway is a subsidiary company of Resilience Multi Academy Trust, providing alternative and vocational opportunities for students who may otherwise have been excluded from mainstream school or are awaiting a place in a specialist setting. Southway is an environment with inclusion and equality at its heart. We are dedicated to the belief that every student has the right to the very highest quality education, set against a backdrop of high expectations, appropriate academic rigour, constructive support and guidance, and effective and mutually beneficial partnerships. We provide a high-quality education in a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment. Committed to the Resilience MAT ethos, Southway has clearly demonstrated that even the most challenging and complex students can reach their full potential, and achieve academic success, when relationships are central to a process by which they recover their sense of hope.
Southway was inspected by Ofsted in July 2025 and was graded ‘outstanding’ for the personal development of students and graded ‘good’ overall. Southway also meets all the Independent School Standards. Following a subject deep-dive, inspectors identified teaching in maths as a particular strength of our practice.
This is a real opportunity for you to make your mark, and as part of a growing Multi Academy Trust with an excellent reputation, there are always opportunities for career development for ambitious and committed colleagues. Teachers at Southway are provided with a personal laptop to support their contribution to our school.
Prospective candidates are welcome to contact Southway via Claire Boardman, PA to the Principal at CBoardman@southway.org.uk to arrange a discussion about this opportunity.
Safeguarding & Recruitment The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service and other statutory checks.
