Business/Operations Controller
Location: Hertfordshire
Reports to: Senior Management & Plant/Fleet Manager
Elb recruit are seeking a proactive and highly organised Business Support Officer to join a successful global construction company in their Hertfordshire depot. This is a varied and critical role, supporting multiple departments to ensure operational compliance, efficiency, and business continuity.
As the role has evolved, you will also play a key part in the management of our new plant including oversight of deliveries, stock of consumables, and general depot operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Training Programme Management:
* Maintain and support the company training programme, including:
* Keeping training records up to date
* Managing the training plan budget
* Booking training sessions and tracking attendance
Audit & Compliance Support:
* Support the delivery of management system audits nationwide
* Log corrective actions, non-conformance's, and assign action owners
* Produce audit reports and monitor the completion of action plans
* Ensure safety and compliance standards are upheld at all times
Fleet & Driver Compliance:
* Support the Fleet Department by updating vehicle and driver compliance records
* Process all fleet-related legal documentation
Supplier & Subcontractor Management:
* Manage the supplier approval process
* Process and manage all subcontractor orders
Expense & Cost Control:
* Review and approve employee expenses
* Ensure fines are logged, recovered via payroll where necessary, or paid and recorded
* Oversee hotel bookings and ensure adherence to the company’s travel policy
* Monitor vehicle and fuel usage, ensuring compliance with internal policies
Operational Oversight:
* Review operational team hours, flagging any discrepancies or non-conformance
* Ensure operational processes and procedures are documented and followed
* Provide scheduling support during staff leave periods within the scheduling team
Depot Management:
* Oversee the day-to-day management of the Wolverhampton depot
* Manage consumables and ensure timely deliveries and supplies
* Liaise with suppliers to maintain stock levels and operational readiness
Requirements:
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks
* A high level of attention to detail and confidence to challenge non-conformance when identified
* Excellent communication skills, able to build positive relationships with colleagues, management, and external partners
* Confident in maintaining accurate records and presenting information clearly
* Initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify improvements and know when to escalate issues
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
