We are seeking a skilled General Operative with expertise in confined space work, high-risk rescue, and breathing apparatus (BA) operations. Key Responsibilities:
Confined Space Entry and Work: Safely enter and work in confined spaces classified as high-risk, utilising self-contained open circuit breathing apparatus (BA). Ensure all safety protocols are strictly followed to mitigate risks associated with confined space environments.
Rescue and Recovery: Perform rescue and recovery operations in high-risk confined spaces using specialist detection and resuscitation equipment. Be prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies, ensuring the safety of all personnel involved.
Safety Procedures: Conduct thorough risk assessments, prepare detailed action plans, and obtain necessary permits to work. Implement and oversee emergency procedures and rescue plans, ensuring all team members are well-informed and trained.
Team Collaboration: Work as part of a cohesive team, including standby persons, entrants, and emergency teams. Foster a culture of teamwork and communication to ensure smooth and safe operations.
Training and Certification: Complete relevant training courses, such as City & Guilds Level 2 (6160-03) and Level 3 (6160-08) awards. Regularly update skills and certifications to ensure compliance with the latest safety regulations and industry standards.
Key Skills and Requirements:
Knowledge of Legislation and Guidelines: In-depth understanding of relevant legislation and guidelines for confined space work, including Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
Practical Skills: Proficiency in using gas testers, ventilation equipment, and communication methods. Ability to perform pre-use checks and tests on breathing apparatus, ensuring all equipment is in optimal working condition.
Physical Fitness: Assessing personal ability and fitness to safely perform tasks in confined spaces. Maintain a high level of physical fitness to handle the demands of the role.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to identify potential hazards and ensure all safety measures are in place.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think critically and solve problems quickly, especially in emergency situations.
Based in Oxford remuneration for this role is £19 per hour, you will accrue holiday entitlement and be eligible to join the VGC pension scheme once certain criteria have been met.
