STS Aviation Services is hiring a Base Maintenance Manager in Newquay, United Kingdom. This is a permanent, full-time position supporting base maintenance operations at NQY and reporting to the Head of Operations.
This role is responsible for managing and delivering aircraft base maintenance operations while maintaining hands-on involvement with aircraft. The Base Maintenance Manager will oversee allocated maintenance inputs, ensure regulatory compliance, coordinate cross-functional teams and drive safe, high-quality, on-time delivery for multiple customers.
Role Summary
The Base Maintenance Manager is responsible for the management and delivery of allocated maintenance inputs while retaining oversight of all maintenance tasks. This position ensures all work is completed in line with regulatory requirements, operational expectations and customer deliverables.
The role interfaces with commercial, planning, supply chain and external stakeholders to support the highest standards of safety, quality and operational performance.
Production and Delivery
* Lead the production team in delivering a high-quality aircraft maintenance service for multiple customers
* Deliver allocated maintenance inputs and projects to schedule and within agreed budget constraints
* Ensure completion of engineering production activities through coordination with commercial, planning and supply chain functions
* Manage production risks to ensure successful delivery of facility requirements
* Develop solutions that support maintenance delivery within budget constraints
Compliance and Technical Integrity
* Remain accountable for safety and compliance across the production maintenance environment
* Maintain accountability for the technical integrity of all work carried out under their control
* Issue Certificates of Release to Service for the specific aircraft type within the scope of limitations of their QA044 Staff Authorisation Document
* Carry out DQS self-audits in line with base maintenance procedures
* Allocate audits to staff and coordinate responses where applicable
* Assist with quality audits and support implementation of robust closure plans
* Ensure husbandry and tool audit requirements are completed and recorded
People and Resource Management
* Provide line management for all staff within the agreed area of responsibility
* Allocate tasks and responsibilities within the work area
* Maintain a log of progress against assigned tasks
* Remain accountable for the conduct and timekeeping of all allocated staff while they work within the area of responsibility
* Ensure Resource and Capacity Management through coordination and oversight of the Resource Administrator, Operations and HR Administrator
* Carry out formal appraisals of hangar floor staff
* Advise the Head of Base Maintenance on potential further training and individual development needs
* Lead through appropriate STS behaviours and set clear expectations for others
* Champion and drive change, adaptability and agility across the production team
Communication and Reporting
* Provide and deliver daily production briefings
* Ensure a daily progress report is issued for each aircraft under maintenance
* Update senior management as required
* Maintain regular dialogue with the facility team to promote problem-solving, teamwork and risk-sharing
* Support and develop operational systems
* Provide leadership, direction and management to the production team with a strong results-oriented focus
Health, Safety and Environment
* Maintain continued health and safety duty of care for the team
* Ensure all current procedures are followed
* Maintain the allocated work area to the highest standards of cleanliness and housekeeping
* Assist the Head of Base Maintenance with creation and management of budgets as required
Skills and Experience Requirements
Qualifications and Certification
* Category B licensed engineers must hold C certification by aircraft type
* Minimum of 5 years of base maintenance experience as a B1 and/or B2 certifying engineer
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in the aerospace sector
* Minimum of 5 years in a similar management role within aviation
Technical Knowledge
* Good working knowledge of UK CAA Part 145 Aviation Legislation
* Good knowledge of safety and compliance regulations within aviation
