Systems Engineering - Requirements and Verification Manager
Engineering
Newcastle
About the Role
Be part of a team delivering the next generation of secure military communications satellites for the UK Ministry of Defence. This work provides resilient, high-performance connectivity for the UK, its allies and Defence personnel worldwide, playing a critical role in protecting national security as space becomes more contested and demand for secure data continues to grow.
Joining Lockheed Martin also means helping to shape significant investment in the North East space sector, with more than £100 million proposed to support high-skill jobs, advanced manufacturing and long-term economic growth. Opportunities include potential satellite manufacturing in County Durham and collaboration with NESST – the North East Space Skills and Technology Centre at Northumbria University – helping to build a strong pipeline of talent, learning and innovation.
This is your chance to work on mission-critical technology, develop cutting-edge skills and build a meaningful career, while delivering lasting impact for the region and the nation.
The Role:
An exciting opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical systems that deliver real-world impact across defence, aerospace, and national capability programmes. The role sits within a highly skilled engineering team focused on solving challenging technical problems, shaping system design decisions, and contributing to advanced solutions across the full lifecycle. It offers exposure to cutting-edge engineering practice, autonomy in delivery, and the opportunity to influence major programmes of work.
The position is responsible for technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness assessments across complete system lifecycles. This includes activities spanning concept development and design through to fabrication, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
Accountability includes ensuring the structured and logical conversion of customer and operational requirements into robust system solutions that balance technical performance, schedule, and cost constraints. Key activities include functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition in support of both hardware and software system specifications.
Complexity
Innovative and effective solutions are developed for a range of complex engineering challenges aligned with organisational and programme objectives. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of technical delivery, with performance assessed primarily on outcomes and alignment to departmental objectives rather than detailed supervision.
Impact
Contribution may include leading or supporting major engineering work packages, with responsibility for guiding projects through to successful completion. Decisions have a lasting impact on programme success, technical direction, and organisational capability. Regular engagement with senior stakeholders on significant technical and programme matters is expected.
Knowledge
Active contribution is made to the development of new engineering concepts, approaches, and solutions. The role requires strong knowledge of industry practices and related disciplines, with recognised expertise within systems engineering and a contribution to technical leadership across the organisation.
