Health Care Assistant – Overnight Service

A great opportunity has arisen to join our Overnight Service as a Healthcare Assistant based at Keynsham Health Centre or the St Martins hospital site. You will join a welcoming nursing team who predominantly visit patients in their own homes or care homes. You will carry out routine care and health tasks which will be set out in agreed care plans, work plans or as directed by registered colleagues. This part‑time role is 27 hours with service hours typically 22:00–08:00 across three shifts. We are a child‑friendly team, and this role is perfect for balancing work and family life. As the role starts at 22:00 there is flexibility for school runs and other commitments.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide compassionate, patient‑centred care in line with individual care plans.
* Support daily care and treatment under the guidance of a registered practitioner.
* Encourage patient and carer involvement in decision‑making.
* Promote patient independence and dignity at all times.
* Work collaboratively within a multi‑professional team.
* Ensure clear, respectful communication, including support for language or hearing barriers.
* Maintain accurate documentation of patient needs and preferences.
* Practice effective infection control and contribute to a safe care environment.
* Support junior staff and seek guidance from registered staff when needed.
* Perform select administrative duties as required.
* Obtain appropriate consent and provide or request a chaperone when needed.
* Uphold policies, procedures, and professional standards at all times.

Ideal Candidate
* Good general education.
* NVQ Level 3 health and social care or Care Certificate, or willingness to achieve.
* Experience of working under supervision.
* Experience of supporting other workers.
* Ability to work as a team member.
* Delivering patient‑focused care.
* Ability to recognise own limitations.
* Typing/data‑inputting skills.
* Physical skills to manually handle patients and use appropriate lifting aids.
* Undertake specific nursing/therapy skills.
* Driven to achieve.
* Self‑motivated.
* Good time management (desirable).
* Experience of the NHS.
* Experience of working in an acute or urgent healthcare setting.
* Basic wound care knowledge and skills.
