Our School Nursing Service within the 0-19 Public Health Service in Shropshire and Telford are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to train School Nurses, studying Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) in partnership with Wolverhampton University.
Starting in September 2026 this full time programme provides both academic study and hands on learning through placements within the Shropshire and Telford area. Your time is divided between university, supervised community practice and study days.
You’ll gain a postgraduate diploma and the in-depth grounding and required skills to support children's development and give them the best start in life.

Main duties of the job
To complete the required further education at level 7 in order to provide and maintain a high standard of skilled School Nursing Practice for individuals, groups and communities in a variety of settings in accordance with the accredited faculty syllabus.
The student School Nurse works under the direction of the Practice Educator. The student will also work along side qualified SCPHN School Nurses within the team.
To work with Practice Educators and SCPHNs and the university lecturers to reflect on academic learning and practice, contribute to assessment of progress, plan learning objectives and submit academic coursework according to university deadlines.

Training & Qualifications
* Current Registration with the NMC as a Level 1 Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife.
* Portfolio evidence of continual professional & academic development.
* Maths and English (Level 2)
Experience
* A wide range of community based, children related or transferable experience.
* Evidence of continual professional development.
Knowledge & Skills
* IT skills and computer literacy.
* Evidence of continuing post basic training.
* Up-to-date knowledge of current Government and Local initiatives and how these translate into practice.
* Understanding of School Nurse and Public Health role.
* Evidence of research-based practice.
* Evidence of health promotion activities.Knowledge of Child Protection legislation.
