We are seeking a dedicated Paediatric Nurse to join our children’s outpatient team. You will deliver high-quality, child-centred care, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient needs across a range of conditions. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, you will support clinics, provide treatments, and offer education and reassurance to children and their families. You will maintain accurate documentation, uphold safeguarding responsibilities, and ensure compliance with infection control standards, while contributing to an efficient, supportive, and continuously improving outpatient service.
Main duties of the job
1. Deliver high-quality, child-centred nursing care in outpatient clinics
2. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual care needs
3. Support and run nurse-led or multidisciplinary clinics
4. Administer treatments, medications, and clinical procedures safely
5. Monitor and record clinical observations and escalate concerns
6. Provide health education and reassurance to children and families
7. Maintain accurate, timely patient records and documentation
8. Adhere to safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance standards
9. Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team
10. Contribute to service improvement and efficient clinic flow

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
11. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate
12. Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload with supervision
13. Ability to solve problems and use initiative
14. Ability to develop clinical skills
15. Willingness to undergo training (e.g. medications)
16. Basic IT skills
17. Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
18. Ability to maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care Adaptable to change

20. Diplomatic approach with professionalism
21. Flexible and approachable
Desirable criteria
22. Willingness to develop teaching skills

Experience

25. Ability to understand the role of a registered nurse
26. Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
27. Awareness of current professional nursing issues
28. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit/quality
Desirable criteria
29. Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
Education, Qualification & Training
Essential criteria
30. Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN
Desirable criteria
31. Evidence of further continued professional development
32. Post qualification experience in relevant speciality
33. Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification
