Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 School Nurse within our School Nursing Team based at Coylton Health Centre.
What You Will Do
The post holder will be a strengths‑based practitioner who is forward thinking and committed to delivering our values of caring, safe and respectful. The post holder will work in partnership with local children and their families alongside colleagues in the NHS and partnership agencies to enable children and young people achieve their optimum outcomes in health. The post holder will be well organised, have excellent communication skills and be passionate about improving outcomes for our children and young people. An awareness of the Children and Young People Scotland Act (2014), GIRFEC policy, The Promise and the school nursing reformed role and pathways is essential.
To improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people and their families through the delivery of the pathway areas outlined within the Scottish Government’s National School Nursing Pathway (2015) include:

* Emotional/Mental Health and Wellbeing
* Homelessness
* Domestic Violence
* Substance Abuse
* Young Carers
* Sexual Health
* Youth Justice
* Transitions
Knowledge, Training and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
All applicants must be a Level 1 registered nurse with excellent communication skills, an existing first level degree, and the academic study commitment to complete the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course if required, and ability to be flexible and work within a large team. There will also be an expectation that following successful completion of an academic programme, candidates will remain within NHS Ayrshire and Arran. Successful candidates who are deferred to commence training will work within school nursing teams prior to commencement of training. Current experience working with Children and Young People and working in multidisciplinary teams, as well as experience of caseload management is desirable.
Hours
Monday–Friday 0900–1700. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
Driving Licence/Car Ownership
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential to this role.
