As a Service Designer, you will, Be a hands-on practitioner with experience in driving awareness of service performance and improvement needs resulting in successful service outcomes. Understand user needs, business and policy goals and use storytelling and visualisations to articulate whole services, both end-to-end and front-to-back, across teams to solve complex problems. Have good working knowledge of service design in practice and can use service design methods including guidance, tools and patterns, to enable your team to solve complex problems and reach outcomes. Communicate with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority and using conversation and collaboration to enable consensus that support the team strategy and decision-making enabling them to achieve outcomes. Contribute to the DWP service design community by, participating in meetups to create connections and share work openly, promoting the capability of service design in and beyond the department and participating in recruitment activities. Person specification When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line withessential criteriabelow: Lead criterion: Have experience of using hands-on service design approaches to solve complex problems. Demonstrate user-centred design skill to develop end-to-end, front-to-back services using Government principles and evidence that meet citizen, and colleague needs as well as department objectives. Be comfortable communicating to a range of colleagues and stakeholders at varying levels of seniority on the value of user centricity, your approaches and decisions. This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. Salary Information Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current salary. Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion will either move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or get a 10% increase to their current salary whichever would be the greater. New entrants to the Civil Service will join on band minimum. Things you need to know Selection process details Stage 1: Application Your application will consist of three parts: 1. A Personal Details application form. 2. Employment history - this should contain your work experience and any skills, qualifications and accomplishments relevant to the jobs you have completed based on the essential criteria. 3. Personal statement - up to 1000 words. This statement should be used to provide examples of how you meet the essential criteria listed in the Person specification. The sift panel will use the information in your employment history and personal statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge against the essential criteria. You will be provided with one combined overall assessment score for both your CV and Personal Statement. An initial sift will be conducted using the lead criterion stated above. Stage 2: Interview If youre successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the experiences listed in the essential criteria. You will be asked to do a 10 minute presentation on a specific topic. Further details will be provided to candidates invited to interview. Interviews will take place from early November 2025. Sift and Interview dates to be confirmed. To help you prepare and settle into the interview you will be sent the interview questions in advance of the interview, at least 5 days prior to your interview. These questions should be treated as confidential and should not be shared. The interview panel may ask you other questions which will not be shared in advance, including follow-up questions, and those about your experience and abilities.
