Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled disordered eating practitioner to work as part of the Specialist Weight Management Service in Trafford. This could be an individual with a nursing, occupational therapy or mental health background who has experience of working with clients with disordered eating or obesity. The successful candidate will work with people who experience disordered eating while living with excess weight, delivering high quality compassionate care.
The service is a Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management MDT that includes nurse therapists, a physiotherapist and dietitians. The team delivers lifestyle programmes for those with a BMI over 40kg/m2 including group education sessions, a pathway for disordered eating and bariatric surgery education. We are committed to providing a service that is compassionate, and client focused. Mindfulness and mindful eating are an important part of our approach, and the service has psychology supervision to inform our pathways and support our work in disordered eating.
As part of the team, you will be able to contribute to service development, staff training, evaluation and audit. CPD is valued and you will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge in this exciting specialism that is at the heart of key priorities for public health and the NHS.
Programmes are mainly clinic based with some group delivery and home visits. Currently, face to face or virtual contacts are offered to clients.
Main duties of the job
To provide appropriate therapy for disordered eating for a specific client caseload, that may including mindfulness, mindful eating and a compassion-based approach.
Manage a caseload of clients who may be complex and have multiple needs including medical, psychological and social.
To assess client’s physical health in line with service protocols.Undertake practice sensitive to the needs of clients, carers and relatives from multi-cultural backgrounds.
Use facilitation skills to deliver a programme of group education sessions with clients.
Develop specialist programmes of care in lead area supported by Senior Practitioner and using current best practice, patient feedback and innovation.
Carry out home visits when required.
Travel to a variety of community venues across Trafford, carrying equipment when needed.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional qualification e.g. nursing occupational therapy, Counselling
* NMC Registration, HCPC registration or Accreditation with BACP
* Evidence of post graduate study relevant to disordered eating or obesity
* Study in areas such as mindfulness, compassion-based approaches, motivational interviewing or CBT
* Training for student supervision
Experience
* Experience of working in weight management or mental health
* Experience of managing own caseload of complex clients
* Experience of working with people who have disordered eating
* Experience of delivering 1:1 psychological interventions
* Experience of working in a multi- disciplinary team
* Experience of working in a community setting
* Experience of clinical audit and standard setting
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of current best practice within chosen specialism including NICE guidance
* Communication skills verbally and in writing to address physical/ psychological and socio-economic needs
* Ability to facilitate group education sessions
* Self-reliant and self-motivated and be able to seek support and help when required
* Reflect and critically appraise one’s own performance
* An understanding of the individual and environmental factors that can influence a person’s weight
