Harmful Sexual Behaviour Practitioner (Fixed Term for 12 months) - Ref: CH01826

Grade G7; Salary Range: £35,412 - £38,220


About the role

As a Harmful Sexual Behaviour practitioner within the service, you will use tools such as AIM3 assessments to support understanding children and young people’s presenting needs and sexually harmful behaviours to support identification of appropriate help, support and therapeutically informed interventions.

You will deliver individually tailored therapeutically informed interventions utilising best practice models and tools such as Toni Cavannagh-Johnson ‘Understanding Children’s Sexual Behaviours – what’s natural and Healthy chart’ and use of Hackett’s ‘Continuum Of Behaviour’ model, to explore areas such as sexual behaviours, knowledge of physical, emotional, social and sexual boundaries, exploring healthy sexual relationships, sex and sexuality, understanding of consent, improving emotional regulation, self esteem, empathy-building, and making safer choices.

You will provide advice, consultation and support to families, carers and professionals in relation to harmful sexual behaviour and work alongside social workers, family support workers and multi‑agency partners to develop and implement risk management and safety plans.

As a Harmful Sexualised Behaviour practitioner you will support parents and carers to increase their understanding of Harmful sexual behaviours and provide guidance around healthy sexual relationships, appropriate boundaries and support in devising achievable safety planning through delivery of the Weddell Family Programme.

You will contribute to service development and promote partnership learning and development in relation to Harmful Sexual Behaviours by contributing to the development of and delivering Harmful Sexual Behaviour training across the partnership.


About You

As a Harmful Sexual Behaviour practitioner, you will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal with excellent active listening skills.

We are looking for practitioners who have the ability to be creative, flexible and adaptable in supporting meaningful engagement with children, young people and their families.

Applicants are required to have substantial experience of working with children, young people and their families and experience of assessing the needs of children and young people and delivering tailored intervention.

A good understanding of healthy, problematic and harmful sexual behaviours and best practice guidance relating to these behaviours is preferable.

As a Harmful Sexual Behaviour Practitioner, you will be professionally reflective, aware and sensitive to the emotive topics in which you are working such as sexual abuse and sexual offending, utilising reflective supervision and clinical supervision as required.

You will be supported to access role specific training and be supported with continuous professional development within the role.

Applicants appointed to posts that require an enhanced DBS clearance must declare any periods of time that they have lived, studied or worked abroad and be prepared to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Certificate (OCRC) or a Statement of Good Conduct (SOGC) relating to anytime they were overseas.

For this role the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check. A BPSS check involves four main elements: identity check, national and immigration status, employment history (last 3 years) and verification of criminal record (unspent convictions only). BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities.
