Overview
Band 8A Post – Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist, Community Learning Disabilities Team, Learning Disabilities Division. 1.0 WTE. We are looking for creative, innovative and enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologists to deliver clinical services within our Community Learning Disabilities Team.
This role involves delivering specialist psychological assessments and therapy for individuals, groups and families, as well as providing consultation to professionals. Our approach is compassionate and inclusive, aiming to reduce the risk of inpatient admission and related trauma, and to improve quality of life while emphasising the value of relationships and attachments with significant others.
Responsibilities
* Deliver specialist psychological assessments and therapy for individuals, groups and families within the Community Learning Disabilities Team.
* Provide consultation to professionals and contribute to a trauma-informed, formulation-based service.
* Be part of a team that uses a broad range of psychological models (e.g., behavioural, adapted CBT, systemic, narrative, ACT, CAT, attachment, CFT, EMDR) and participate in ongoing training via Learning Beyond Registration.
* Engage in rolling group interventions (e.g., Emotion Regulation, Tree of Life) and support clients with complex health needs to reduce health inequalities and improve quality of life.
* Collaborate with MDTs, lead or contribute to service development projects and pathways, and support clinical leadership activities.
* Travel throughout Birmingham with occasional out-of-area visits; based at one of the city hubs (Kings Norton, Small Heath, or Erdington) with primary client work in the local area; remote working may be considered in balance with MDT needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Professional qualification in Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychology with eligibility for registration and current training in a relevant domain.
* Experience in a learning disabilities setting and delivery of psychological services in multidisciplinary teams.
* Be part of an established group of psychologists (Band 8C to 7) and work with Assistant Psychologists and trainees.
* Proficiency with a range of psychological models and evidence-based interventions; willingness to engage in research and supervise doctoral projects where possible.
* Flexibility regarding part-time arrangements and travel requirements as part of service delivery.
