Job Description
I have an excellent opportunity for a Site Earthworks Materials Manager working for a highly successful civil engineering company on a major project near Portsmouth. This role will ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with scope, specification, programmes, and industry standards. Furthermore, you will assist with engineering quantification, quality assurance, Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) production, monitoring, reporting, and document completion in line with our business management systems.
Key responsibilities of the Earthworks Materials Manager include:
1. Coordinating and overseeing laboratory and field-testing activities, ensuring full compliance with project and industry standards.
2. Producing, reviewing, and issuing Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
3. Overseeing the approval process of all materials for the project.
4. Reviewing classification of excavated material on site to ensure compliance with the project specification.
5. Managing the materials testing subcontractors.
6. Proactively identifying, investigating, and resolving non-conformance issues.
7. Managing test results and issuing reports to relevant parties.
8. Producing quality documentation, including forms, checklists, and client reports, to facilitate and demonstrate earthworks and materials testing compliance.
9. Liaising with designers, clients, and their representatives, including the construction engineer, on all aspects of quality of works.
10. Testing excavated material and re-using suitable material where possible.
11. Working with project management and engineering staff to improve the quality of work on site.
Ideal requirements for the Earthworks Materials Manager include:
1. A degree in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering (or equivalent experience).
2. Experience with earthworks testing procedures.
3. A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience.
4. UKAS soils laboratory testing experience is beneficial.
5. Strong communication skills and the ability to discuss technical aspects with both technical and non-technical individuals.
6. A good understanding of the Specification for Highway works and general material classifications.
7. Relevant qualifications, including a CSCS Card.
8. Strong knowledge of HSQE regulations.
9. Computer literacy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Office programmes.
