We have an amazing opportunity for you… we are looking to recruit a Kennel Assistant to join our team!
The kennel assistant role operates on a 4 day on, 4 day off rotation, including some weekend and bank holiday cover as required. The working hours are typically 8:00am-5:00pm with an hour off for lunch.
There may be an opportunity for the right candidate to complete an apprenticeship at the College of Animal Welfare, for the Veterinary Care Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship course, via distance learning. Click here for further details.
This apprenticeship provides an excellent introduction into the veterinary profession, allowing you to learn and develop your knowledge and skills whilst working.
Responsibilities include:
1. Inpatient care.
2. Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in kennel areas.
3. Assisting Nurses & Vets.
4. Laundry duties.
5. Stocking of kennel consumables.
6. Supporting with new initiatives as required.
7. Adhering to all SOPs.
8. Communicating effectively with clients and maintaining a high standard of customer service and care.
9. Maintaining good working relationships within the practice.
10. Fulfilling obligations of the rota, including sick cover, on-call duties, and bank holiday cover.
11. Carrying out any reasonable requests from management.
Inpatient care responsibilities:
1. Monitoring TPR.
2. Medicating under RVN guidance.
3. Checking patency on IV lines.
4. Performing procedures on inpatients under supervision.
5. Keeping accurate records, updating hospital forms and computer systems, and billing for meds or consumables used.
6. Maintaining washing machine and laundry storage.
7. Cleaning the ambulance daily and ensuring it is ready for patient transport.
8. Ensuring high standards of cleanliness in hospital, kennels, cattery, laundry room, and outside areas, recorded in the cleaning folder.
9. Assisting with other duties as appropriate.
10. Being aware of all Health & Safety issues and reading all supplied information.
11. Participating in appraisals and reviews.
12. Managing stock orders and assisting with biannual stock takes.
