THE EMPLOYER IS: GREATER SHANTALLOW COMMUNITY ARTSThe Caretaking Assistant will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of Studio 2, helping to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation across all facilities. This role contributes directly to creating a warm and welcoming environment where residents, artists, and community groups can enjoy and take part in GSCA’s creative programmes and events.
Responsibilities
* Carry out daily cleaning of community spaces, studios, performance areas, meeting rooms, offices, kitchens, and washrooms.
* Assist with the setup and takedown of furniture, equipment, and staging for arts workshops, rehearsals, performances, and community events.
* Perform minor maintenance and repair tasks such as replacing light bulbs, painting touch-ups, or tightening fixtures.
* Monitor the condition of the building and outdoor areas, promptly reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
* Manage deliveries and help organise storage areas for materials, props, and equipment.
* Ensure all waste and recycling are disposed of responsibly and that bins are regularly emptied.
* Support evening and weekend events as required, including opening, closing, and assisting with event logistics.
* Maintain building security by locking/unlocking doors and monitoring access when on duty.
* Follow all GSCA health, safety, and safeguarding policies.
* Provide a friendly and helpful point of contact for community members, artists, and visitors using the centre.
Skills and Qualifications
* Ability to work independently when required, and as part of a small team.
* Flexibility to work evenings or weekends in support of GSCA events and programmes.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Previous experience in caretaking, cleaning, or building maintenance.
* Basic maintenance and practical problem-solving skills.
* Good physical ability to move furniture, equipment, or staging safely.
* Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
